Common Questions

I didn't receive my sign-in email.

Look for an email titled "Sign in to For My Students", and check your spam or junk folder. Make sure you entered the email address your institution registered for you. If it still doesn't arrive after a few minutes, request a new link.

My sign-in link says it is invalid or has expired.

Each link works only once, and only the newest link is valid. Request a new link and open it on the same phone you requested it from.

The app asks me to record my signature first.

Every study material carries your audio signature. Tap "Record Your Signature Now", record it once, and all features will open.

I can't type in the text box or attach a file.

Enter a title first. The text box, the import button and the PDF button unlock as soon as your material has a title.

Can I use my Word document?

Yes. On the Supplement or Course Audio screen, tap "Import Word (.docx) or .txt file" and choose your document. The app turns it into text on your phone, with no internet needed. Check the text, then convert it to audio. For Course Audio, each "Heading 1" in your Word document becomes a chapter. Pictures and equations are skipped, because they cannot be read aloud.

The platform says I have an older Word file (.doc).

Open the file in Word, choose File › Save As › Word Document (.docx), then import the new .docx file.

How do I share a PDF with my students?

On Home, tap Explainer, Supplement or Course Material, then choose PDF. Enter a title, attach up to 10 PDFs, then choose "Add a Voice Explainer" or "Share PDFs Only". Your PDFs are saved in the Library under the PDFs tab.

How do I add a voice explainer to a PDF later?

Open the Library, go to the PDFs tab, and tap "Add Voice Explainer" on the PDF. To replace an explainer, tap "Re-record Explainer". Each PDF material has one voice explainer, and students receive it together with the PDF(s).

How do I send material to my institution's library?

In the Library, tap "Send to Institution Library" on a finished item and choose your email app. The library's address, the subject and a short description are filled in for you. After you choose an app, the item shows "Sent to your institution's library" with the date. If the button says your institution has no library address yet, please ask your institution's For My Students coordinator.

How do I connect my PC?

On any screen that shows "Connect to PC" (Explainer, Supplement, Course Audio, or any PDF screen), tap it. First connect the PC to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone, or to your phone's hotspot. Then use either of the two ways the app shows:

Type the address into your PC's web browser, for example 192.168.1.171:8080. Every screen uses the same address, so you can bookmark it. This works on almost every PC, including older models. Type it exactly as shown, with a colon (:) before the last number, not a dot.

Scan the QR code with your PC's camera. This is quicker, but works best on newer PCs with a webcam and a QR scanner.

Whatever you type, attach or remove on the PC appears on your phone, and changes made on the phone appear on the PC.

Can I record from my PC?

Yes, in two ways. Press "Start Recording" on the PC page: your phone counts down 5 seconds, then records with its own microphone while you control Pause, Resume and Finish from the PC. Keep the phone close to you while you speak. Or record with any app on your PC and attach the finished file on the PC page.

My PC won't connect.

Check that the PC and phone are on the same Wi-Fi network or hotspot, and that the address was typed exactly as shown. If it still fails, tap "Disconnect", then "Connect to PC" again, and use the new address the app shows.

The PC page says it is from an earlier connection.

Your phone has moved to another screen or connected again. Click "Reload this page" on the PC to continue.

How do I share audio or PDFs with my students?

Tap "Share" on the finished item. A PDF with a voice explainer is shared together as one study pack, with the explainer first. Offline methods such as Bluetooth or direct transfer work without internet or data costs.
