Privacy Policy
Effective date: 28 September 2026
For My Students is a Technology-Enhanced Educational Resources Platform. It is an Android-based platform that helps lecturers turn their own teaching material into audio lessons and study materials for their students. The app is published on Google Play by NovaDroid ("we", "us"), based in Nigeria. This policy explains what information the app uses, where it is kept, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses the app, in whichever country they live.
Who the app is for
For My Students is for lecturers at institutions that have an agreement with us. We work with institutions, not individual users. Lecturer accounts are created and removed by us only at the request of the lecturer's institution. The app is not intended for children or for anyone under 18.
Our approach: your material stays on your phone
For My Students is built to work offline. Your teaching material is processed on your own phone and is not sent to us. This includes:
text you type or paste, and Word (.docx) or .txt files you import (they are turned into text on your phone)
PDF files you attach (the app keeps its own copy on your phone; your original file is not changed)
voice recordings, including your audio signature and your voice explainers
the audio files (MP3s) the app produces
your voice, speed and pitch settings
a note of when you last sent each item to your institution's library
We cannot see, access or recover any of these materials.
Information we keep on our servers
To confirm that you are an authorized lecturer, we store a small amount of account information using Google Firebase:
Information Why we need it
Your sign-in email address (up to three) To send you sign-in links and confirm who you are
Your name and title To show your account details in the app
Your institution's name To confirm your institution has access, and to identify your institution on the materials you produce
Your account status (active or removed) To give or remove access
Your institution's library email address, if your institution provides one To fill in the address when you choose "Send to Institution Library"
Basic sign-in records kept by Firebase, such as sign-in times and the network (IP) address used To keep sign-in secure and prevent misuse
This information is provided by you or by your institution. We do not collect your contacts, location, photos, documents or any other files.
Why we are allowed to use it
We use your account information to provide the service your institution has arranged with us, so that you can sign in and use the app. We use the sign-in records because we have a legitimate interest in keeping accounts secure and preventing misuse. We do not use your information for any other purpose.
What goes into the files you produce
Each audio file the app produces, including each voice explainer, begins with your audio signature, which says your name and institution. The file's details (its "tags") also carry the title, your name, your institution and the date it was produced. PDF files you share keep their own content; the app gives them a name that starts with your title and matches their voice explainer. This is how students know who prepared the material. Anyone who receives one of your files can see and hear this information.
When information leaves your phone
Checking your account. Each time you open the app with an internet connection, it briefly contacts our Firebase servers to confirm your account is still active. If you are offline, the app keeps working for up to 30 days from its last successful check. You only need to sign in again with a new email link after that, or if you reinstall the app.
Sharing a file. A file (an audio file, a PDF, or a PDF with its voice explainer) leaves your phone only when you choose to share it, by the method you choose. We recommend offline methods such as Bluetooth or direct transfer. If you choose an online method (for example, a messaging app), that service's own privacy policy applies.
Sending to your institution's library. When you tap "Send to Institution Library", the app prepares an email to your institution's library with the file(s) attached and a short description (title, type, course, your name, your institution and the date). Nothing is sent until you choose an app and send it yourself. The email goes through the app you choose, not through us.
Connecting to a PC. "Connect to PC" works only over your own Wi-Fi network or your phone's hotspot. Text, PDFs, Word files and recordings pass directly between your PC and your phone and do not go over the internet. A Word file sent from the PC is turned into text on your phone.
Online voices (optional). The app always chooses an on-device voice by default. Some phones also offer online voices, which are clearly labeled in the app. If you choose one, the text being read aloud is sent to your phone's speech provider (usually Google) to create the audio.
What we do not do
We do not show advertisements.
We do not use analytics or tracking tools.
We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
App permissions
Microphone: used only while you are recording an explainer or your audio signature. You can also start a recording from the "Connect to PC" page; the phone then counts down 5 seconds before recording and keeps its screen on until you finish.
Network access: used for signing in and for the local "Connect to PC" feature.
Local network discovery (Wi-Fi multicast): used only by "Connect to PC".
Who processes your information, and where
Your account information is stored and processed by Google Firebase, part of Google LLC, on our behalf. Google's servers may be located outside your country, including outside Nigeria. Google protects information moved between countries with the safeguards described in its own data processing terms. Information sent between the app and Firebase is encrypted in transit.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. When your institution asks us to remove your account, or its agreement with us ends, we delete your account information within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection laws give you rights over your personal information. These laws include the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, the General Data Protection Regulation in the European Union and the United Kingdom, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. These rights usually include the right to:
see the information we hold about you, and get a copy of it
have it corrected if it is wrong
have it deleted
object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it
complain to the data protection authority in your country
Your institution manages your account with us, so the quickest way to use these rights is through your institution's For My Students coordinator (the person who arranged your access). You may also email us directly from your registered address. We will work with your institution and reply within 30 days. Our "Account Deletion" page explains how deletion works.
If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can contact the data protection authority where you live, such as the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, your local authority in the EU or UK, or the Data Protection Board of India.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above.
